The park overlooks the hills of the province of Varese and the Po valley. Its borders are the Valcuvia, to the North-West, the Valganna, to the East, and the city of Varese, to the South. The park includes two important massifs, i.e. Campo dei Fiori and Martica, which are separated by the Valle Rasa. The particular geographical location and the geological features account for a great variety of vegetation types, with chestnut woods and beechwoods, rock surfaces covered by flora, and marshy and peaty zones which are home to a rich fauna. There are several interesting historic and architectural sites which really worth a visit, such as the Sacro Monte, the Tre Croci Hotel at Sommaruga, the Fortress in Orino.
