To
witness the vassals Mandelli, in Maccagno Inferiore (Lower Maccagno) it was found the so called "imperial tower"
and a fort. The tower was built in the Low Middle Ages and it was used on one hand as a signal
for people trespassing the territory, on the other one it was a defense
tower of the city, by checking the road leading to the lake. This tower is situated
on a hill, under which there is Rome's square and where you can find the Zecca
building (1622). The Imperial Tower was gradually transformed during years:
the structure is lower than it was in the past and the battlement was constructed afterwards.
Maccagno Inferiore has a medieval urban plant in which little streets and steps
covered by big vaults connect to parallel roads, situated on different heights.
