Already
populated in the Bronze Age, the territory corresponding
to the actual little village of Meina, preserves traces of its
feudal past. This area was already
inhabited in the 2nd millennium b. C. During the 10th-11th century "Madina", the original
name of the site, belonged to a Pavia monastery and to the Benedictine monastery in
Arona. Just before 1200 it became a possession, with the whole Vergante region, of the
archbishops of Milan, and
it was then a feud of the Visconti and of the Borrromeo.
Here you can rediscover the beauties of Lago
Maggiore and its exclusive residences, such as: the neo-classic
Villa Faraggiana and Villa Cella,
surrounded by a wide park.
Here stayed as a guest the statesman Cesare Correnti. Anyway
all the shore is a succession of villas and parks.
