VILLA CAGNOLA

V
illa Cagnola was originally built in Gazzada, near Varese, by the noble family Perabò. After the Melzi d'Eril at the end of the 14th century, the villa belonged to the aristocratic family Cagnola, who with the help of the architect Chierichetti, restored it. The hall was furnished with pieces from Milan and Pavia palaces, and turned into a museum. Of particular interest are the ceramic collection and the collection of 14th and 15th century Tuscany paintings, in addition to other pictures from the 18th century. The villa, which was donated in 1946 to the Institute of Religious Studies and the Ambrosiana Paolo VI Foundation, commands a notable panorama over Varese's lake and the alpine chain, and a park reach of rare secular trees.
