VILLA DELLA PORTA BOZZOLO
(LAVENO)

Valcuvia was the way by land from Laveno to Luino, around the Sasso del Ferro, the Monte Nudo and the Monte della Colonna. After Laveno is situated Cittiglio and then Casalzuigno. The villa was built by a member of the family Della Porta from about 1500. During the course of time the property was enlarged, but the significant changes were made by Gianangelo III Della Porta at the beginning of the 18th century. Due to him a splendid Italian garden was added, with steps, fountains, streams, and internally frescoes by the Varese artist's studio Magatti were carried out. Over the years the heirs dedicated a lot of thought to the villa, with the addition of Rococo decorations of great beauty. The villa is now property of the FAI, and it is well-know place to visit.
