Before
property of the Ponti family,
Isolino Virginia, with all the archaeological collection contained in the museum, belonged in the
firsts decades of this century to the municipality of Varese and constituted a further center of visit
for the museum system of the city all over the territory. It is open only from June to September during
weekends. It can be reached by boat from Biandronno with a public service, but there are also private berths.
Its structure is harmonious, fragile and delicate; Isolino Virginia hosts a collection with a didactical structure
showing pre-history of Varese's lake, its populations and its life. One of the major historical and fascinating
curiosity is based on the usage of pile works made by population who live on water.
These pile works were
found also in France and central Europe, were built using archaeological knowledge ante-litteram to exploit
water and its resources without damages.
