built up area, surrounded by a tropical vegetation,
is situated on a promontory.  Small, but delightful resort,
it has the benefit of a natural inlet, it is always sheltered
from the cold winds, even in winter. The climate is very mild
and permits a premature flowering, which, in spring, turns the
village into a big flowery terrace, widely opened on the lake.
In fact the promenade is the meeting place of tourists, who
love walking along it, stopping and admiring the panoramic
view. The picturesque castles 
are the feature of Cannero, built
 on two little islands, not far from the shore. These fortresses,
even if in ruins, have never lost their charm for having been
the refuge of Fratelli Mazzarditi, famous brigands, kidnappers,
who terrorised the shore of Verbano, at the end of the XIV century.
During the year, there is a continual succession of different folksy
and gastronomic manifestations. One of the most important events
is "La Luminaria" on the lake,  which goes on the second Sunday
of July, on the occasion of the Patron Feast. While on the second
Sunday of October, "La Festa d'Autunno" goes on.
