who wish to come and visit it for enjoyment, instead of using train or car
(on the Sempione), can choose the old lateral streets intermunicipal.
Travelling southward you find Novara, Oleggio and then Varallo Pombia;
in the surroundings you see the "Montagna del Bosco"; where little hills stand
on the lake basin. Afterwards you face the astonishing view of the valley, in which Castelletto Ticino
settled, opposite you find Sesto Calende. Castelletto Ticino is on an
excellent geographical position, delimited on one hand from the Lake Maggiore and on the other
by the river Ticino. The Pennine Alps and, in particular, Monte Rosa dominate the territory.
The principal cause of urban settling is the river Ticino, in fact its waters are rich in: different kind
of fishes, "goldy" sands and a luxuriant vegetation. It has a mild climate and it is easily reached
by means of transport. Castelletto Ticino landscape was famous till pre-historical times and was inhabited by
Ligurians, Celts, Welsh and Etruscans. Each archaeological excavation shown that
these populations passed by. Since ancient times, in romanic period, the "Ticinus" and Castelletto Ticino
acquired more and more importance. Castelletto Ticino changed from an agricultural economy to an
industrialized one; trying to maintain its traditions and artistic patrimony,
also to preserve its green landscape and its waters.
