Laveno
is a beautiful town that links up an industrial propension
with an evident tourist bent. Here there were the famous
firms of Italian pottery and china, but it is also a tourist centre.
By a the ferry-boat service the Piedmontese shore can communicate
with Intra. Not far from the jetty, there is the station "Ferrovie Nord"
and together with "Ferrovie dello Stato" links the town up to Milan and
the Switzerland. The main road and the highway "dei Laghi" (A8) are simple
also to reach. First of all, Laveno offers the tourists, a beautiful
panorama of the Piedmontese shore, and the Borromean Gulf.
The steep "Sasso di Ferro" overlooks the little town; on it you can
admire one of the most beautiful Lombardian view. Under the urban
profile, it seems to be dominated by the modern church Sant'Ambrogio"(1935).
While in streets along the promenade, the beautiful building
facades make the walk and the shopping pleasant. Visit also
Villa De Angeli Frua and his botanic park , in the historical centre.
The particular
position, now defined a tourist attraction, was on the contrary, during
past, a strategic place for belligerents. Here in fact there were many
battles from the Romans and Galli Cembri, Visconti, Sforza,
Borromeo, up to Garibaldi and the Austrians. In Cerro, resort on
the southern part of Laveno, there is a beautiful promenade along
the beach and "La Civica Raccolta di Terraglie" , a museum of
artistic pottery, created in 1893.
Few kilometers from Laveno, going towards Varese, in the village
of Cittiglio, at the gates of the Vacuvia, you can visit the Museum Alfredo Binda
, about the cycling. At Casalzuigno, a little further on, the Villa Della Porta Bozzolo
is worth visiting.
