It
was the holiday resort preferred by the statesman
Camillo Cavour, the writers Giulio Carcano and
Alessandro Manzoni, who really estimated Lago
Maggiore and stayed at the neo-classic Villa Stampa,
which is in the centre of the place along the promenade. Numerous the
villa's, among others Villa Noseda .
Lesa goes into a small inlet; it was already active in the past
time and the older buildings have medieval origins. In the hill
village of Massino Visconti, there is the curious monument
dedicated to Umbrella-makers, once this trade was greatly
diffused. Situated on a promontory, the little village of Solcio
offers a beautiful view over the lake.
