6 km from Laveno, going southwards you find the locality on the coast
known as Monvalle Lido, a little privileged bay, destination for people who like
camping and practice "water" sports. It is a tourist area, where is possible to find plenty
of residential complexes, terraced houses,  little villages, dockyards and seaside plants.
Instead a little more inward there is the centre of Monvalle, a small city of ancient
agricultural tradition. Till 1900 you could see tracks of ancient castle, that the archbishop
of Milan Ariberto gave to the local clergy, subsequently used by the noble local family of
the Besozzi as "residenza patrizia" (the house where the Patricians lived).
The parish church
is entitled to S. Stefano Protomartyr, built by the end of 1500 to substitute the already
existing one of SS. Cosma and Damiano, afterward it has been vastly refreshed.
In the fraction of Turro, the oratory of S. Nazaro and Celso needs to be mentioned.
It is possible to make some excursions. |
