The
museum was born in 1975 and open in 1976, after 4 years of work of the
Historic-archaeologic Association "Mario Bertolone". In 1971 were
found 42 tombs and later any more 23. A so reach necropolis that the work and
the study was entrusted to the University of Milan, to the self Association
and to the University of Pavia.
The museum offers a prehistoric section with the findings of the "Mithra"
cavern, inhabited in the pre-history and dedicated from the Romans to the cult
of Mithra. There is then the Roman section, with the findings of the
necropolis: tombs and residences remains, witness of the Roman presence in
Angera since the first century, and with some particularities: glass dishes,
little ceramics, usually rare in the tombs. Then coins, nails, knifes,
earthenware pot, remains of human and animal bones, and also coaled bread.
Rare the necklaces. The museum presents at last a study over a vicus
between the first century b.C. and the first century a.C.
