RISERVA NATURALE dei CANNETI di DORMELLETTO
This
area, 157 ha. of cane thicket on the south-west shore of Maggiore
Lake, is important for the fauna. It represents one of the last
examples in the Novara province, with also the Piana di Fondotoce,
of a transition zone between land and water to a prevalent
spontaneous vegetation made up of cane fields. The importance of
this presence is given to the fundamental ecologic function
carried out by the cane field environment. In regulating water
levels, depuration and absorption balanced by substances, even
harmful, put in the water. Particularly important are the nearby
wood zones and common reed fields for the building of a
fundamental habitat for the nest builders and the wintering of
numerous ornithological species.
