MUSEO DEI TRASPORTI "OGLIARI
(RANCO)

The European Transport Museum was founded in 1954 by Prof. Francesco Ogliari: man of letters and science, he wrote also a Transport history, in 70 volumes. He collected here the fruits of his research, of over 40 years. The museum shows the development of the history (the last two hundred years) of transport: starting with the Scharette coach of 1820, the Wurth, the Utreth Car (which was the favorite means of short distance travel among Dutch families in 1828). At the same time came the steam train (one of the most precious is the Busseto of 1892), which in turn was superseded by electrical traction engines (various Edison motors from the early 20th century can be seen, as well as the FS 242 engine from 1936. The petrol driven bus by FIAT (1912) testifies to the invention of the combustion engine. Fascinating is also the underground railway, complete with stations, from the 1950s. The museum doesn't finish here though: there is a wind powered railway from 1858, a funicular railway functioning on the principle of "water counterbalance", a balloon, and a cable car; all pearls which testify to the past.
